Published to mark the 100th anniversary of the Hamilton-Russell Cup, the book shines a light on one of the chess world’s most important but least known figures, Frederick Gustavus Hamilton-Russell. It also provides an authoritative history of the competition he founded - the Hamilton-Russell Cup.

The book has many layers and as well as being a chess biography is in many ways also a social history. Additionally, there is a foreword by Viscount Boyne and there are games annotations by GM Matthew Sadler.

The Authors: Norman Britten is social secretary of the RAC’s chess circle and a regular player in the Hamilton-Russell Cup; and Danny Rosenbaum is social media manager of the English Chess Federation and is a former editor of their magazine ChessMoves. He is secretary of the Hamilton-Russell Cup.
